BTEC Level 1 Diploma Art & Design

BTEC Level 2 Diploma Art & Design

Through specific art lessons in 2D, 3D, ceramics studios and computer rooms, you’ll develop your skills in drawing and painting; make sculptures from wood, plastics, wire and clay; and produce computerised graphic pieces. You’ll also develop your writing and presentation skills in order to produce good quality sketchbooks.

BTEC Level 3 Diploma Art & Design

You need: 4 GCSE grades A*-C including Art, Graphics or Textiles or a Merit for BTEC Level 1 Diploma Art & Design

Duration: 2 years

You’ll be working with 2D, 3D media and materials to gain a broader understanding of art and design theory and practice. You’ll develop your practical skills in art by experimenting with drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics and resistant materials in 3D. You’ll also be using Photoshop software and visiting art galleries. Interpreting and analysing art produced by others is a key element. During the second year you’ll be developing your art portfolio for university interviews and professionally presenting your work. This course is equivalent to 2 A Levels.

BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma Art & Design

You need: 5 GCSE grades A*-C including Art, Graphics or Textiles or Distinction for BTEC Level 1 Diploma

The Extended Diploma covers the same content as the Diploma plus additional units. It is equivalent to 3 A Levels.

AS/A2 Art & Design - Fine Art

Coursework/Exams (%): 75/25
You need: 6 GCSE grades A*-C (at least 2 A/B grades) including Art, English and Maths
Board: AQA
Duration: AS 1 year/A2 2 years

The course will essentially develop analytical and imaginative drawing and painting skills, mainly through using a variety of 2D media, however, students may use other areas of the School, including photography, sculpture, ceramics and printing. You’ll work on two units per year. Major projects are set based on broad themes, including externally set assignments; one each year plus historical, contextual and student centred projects.
