BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art & Design, Photography

You need: 5 GCSE grades A*-C including Art, Graphics or Textiles and normally including English or Maths or Distinction/Merit for BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Art & Design

This course will enable you to develop a wider understanding of photography and prepare an art portfolio for University. You’ll explore a range of traditional and digital photography. You’ll learn through practical and critical activities to express and gain knowledge of the different areas within photography. You’ll be able to choose the genres and styles you want to explore. The course is equivalent to three A Levels and is very varied: as well as furthering your own practical skills through mediums including Photoshop, you’ll visit art galleries. Your second year will be mainly taken up with developing your art portfolio for university interviews and professionally presenting work produced during the course.

AS/A2 Photography

You need: 6 GCSE grades A*-C (at least 2 A/B grades) including English and Maths
Board: AQA
Duration: AS 1 year/A2 2 years

You’ll be introduced to a variety of experiences, exploring a range of traditional photography such as use of SLR film based cameras, darkroom printing as well as digital photography and photoshop manipulations. You’ll learn through practical and critical activities to demonstrate and understand different styles, genres and traditions of photography. You’ll have the choice of exploring portraiture, documentary, photojournalism, landscape, still-life and natural forms photography, all with reference to historical and contemporary practice of photography.

These programmes can lead to the Diploma in Foundation Studies: Art & Design or higher education courses in photography, media, art and design or digital imagery. Employment is also an option.
